General Information
Travel documents
A valid passport or some other identifi cation
paper recognised by international agreements, a personal ID card
for some nationals (an identity card that proves the identity and
nationality of the bearer).

Customs
Customs regulations of the Republic of Croatia are harmonised with
the standards of E.U. member states, importing goods of a non-commercial
nature for personal use is, however, customs duty and VAT exempt
only up to a value of 300 Kuna. Importing meat and dairy products
into the country without special veterinary inspection is limited
to 1kg; up to 5 litres of wine can be brought into the country.
Foreign currency may be freely taken in and
out of the country; local currency up to an amount of 15,000.oo
Kuna, but all transfers of cash (whether in foreign currency or
in Kuna) that exceed a value of 40,000.00 Kuna must be declared
to a customs offi cial.
More valuable professional and technical equipment must be declared
at the border.
When leaving the country, foreign citizens can get a tax refund
for purchased goods exceeding 500.00 kuna (for each single item)
on presentation of a certifi ed “Tax Cheque” form.
Pets (dogs, cats and animals of the marten family) which are either
travelling through the Republic of Croatia in the company of their
owners, or which are staying in the country on a temporary basis,
must, prior to entering the country, be fi tted with a microchip
or be clearly and legibly marked with a tattooed number entered
into an international certifi cate issued in accordance with legislation
valid in the Republic of Croatia. After the fi rst vaccination against
rabies carried out at the age of
three months, animals must be vaccinated at least six months and
no more than one year prior to undertaking the journey, and not
more than one year may have passed prior to travelling since subsequent
(booster) vaccination has been administered.Import into, and temporary
residence on the territory of the Republic of Croatia is prohibited
in the case of possibly dangerous dogs of the terrier breed, of
the bull terrier type, which have not been entered in the register
of the International Kennel Club (FCI) (pit bull terriers) or their
cross-breeds.

Currency
The official currency in Croatia is the Kuna (1 Kuna = 100 lipa).
Foreign currency may be exchanged in banks, exchange offi ces, post
offi ces, tourist agencies and hotels.
Post and telecommunications
Post offi ces are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
on weekdays, in smaller centres from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.; some offi
ces work a split shift. In most towns and tourist centres, on-duty
post offi ces are open on Saturdays and Sundays.
Phone cards are used in all public telephones and may be purchased
from post offi ces and from newspaper and tobacco kiosks. International
calls may be made directly from all public telephones.
Shops and public services - working
hours
Most shops are open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
on weekdays and until 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Some shops
work a split-shift system: from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and again from
4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Public services and business offi ces work from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.,
Mondays to Fridays.
Medical services
There are hospitals and clinics in all larger
towns and cities; in the smaller centres there are dispensaries
and pharmacies.
Foreign visitors are not obliged to pay for medical services if
Croatia and their country of origin have concluded Social Security
Agreements.
Medical care (including transportation) is provided in emergency
cases as is provided to, and based on regulations valid for, Croatian
healthcare insurance carriers.
Persons coming from countries with which agreements have not been
concluded must pay their own healthcare expenses.

Tap water is potable in all parts of Croatia.

Fuel stations
Open from 7 a.m. until 7 or 8 p.m. every day;
in the summer season, until 10 p.m.
Certain fuel stations in the larger cities and on main international
routes are open 24-hours a day.
All fuel stations sell Eurosuper 95, Super 95, Super 98, Super plus
98, Diesel and Euro diesel fuel and, in larger cities, gas. Information
